A tragic incident occurred at a residence in Hopewell, New Jersey, where a 34-year-old man named Craig Williams allegedly stabbed his parents to death.
According to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, New Jersey State Police troopers received a wellness check call around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday and found Brenda L. Williams and Billy C. Williams Jr., both in their 60s, dead from apparent stab wounds.
Craig Williams, who lived with his parents, was later arrested and charged with two counts each of first-degree murder, second-degree desecration of human remains, and two counts of third- and fourth-degree weapons possession charges.
In addition to these charges, he was also charged with obstruction, hindering apprehension, and tampering with evidence.
According to an affidavit of probable cause obtained by NJ.com, a relative of the parents requested a well-being check at the home after neither Brenda nor Billy responded to multiple calls over the weekend and Billy did not show up to work on Monday morning.
When troopers arrived at their home, Craig Williams initially denied access but eventually let them inside.
Williams led them to his parents’ bedroom where they found the deceased victims.
Craig Williams had bloodstains on his clothing when the troopers arrived at his parents’ home for the wellness check, according to the affidavit.
Police seized several knives and an axe as evidence from the crime scene.
Investigators learned that troopers had responded to 20 separate incidents at the home in just the last two years, including domestic violence, harassment, assaults, and verbal arguments, all involving Craig Williams, who was arrested numerous times for assaulting both victims.
Craig Williams was booked at the Cumberland County Jail, and prosecutors plan to request that he remain behind bars until his trial, officials told NJ.com.
This tragedy has left a community in mourning, as loved ones of Brenda and Billy come to grips with the loss of two lives.
