A British tourist who felt ill after swimming in the sea on a beach in Albufeira, Portugal, has died.
The 45-year-old unidentified woman died on Penedo Beach in the Algarve vacation town on September 21 after swimming in the sea.
According to a statement released by the National Maritime Authority, the alert was raised at approximately 1.15 p.m. on Wednesday after reports that a person was feeling unwell after exiting the sea.
The National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) assisted the woman, but she died on the beach.

Additionally present were the Maritime Police, the SeaWatch Project (in which navy personnel work to protect the public), and the Medical and Resuscitation Vehicle from the INEM.
Her body was then sent to the Medical-Legal Office in the adjacent harbor city of Portimo.
The southernmost area of Portugal, the Algarve, is a renowned tourist destination with beaches and resort towns, including Albufeira.
In 2021, 2,7 million visitors traveled to The Algarve.
