On Saturday, a 77-year-old grandmother was discovered stabbed to death in her own garage in a gated Atlanta suburb.
Eleanor Bowles was found dead by her son at 5:30 p.m., hours after Antonio Brown, 23, allegedly stormed into her Buckhead home and stabbed her during a botched carjacking, according to officials.
Police suspect Brown broke into Bowles’ garage at 11:30 a.m. and attempted to steal her 2021 Lexus RS350 when Bowles halted the alleged robbery by entering the garage.
He then allegedly stabbed her many times before fleeing in her vehicle, according to authorities. Police located and found the vehicle Saturday evening in DeKalb County.
Brown has been apprehended, and it is unknown how the young suspect entered the guarded complex.
It is unknown how Brown entered the gated neighborhood.
Saturday evening, when Bowles’s son arrived at his mother’s home on Paces West Terrace for the holidays, he discovered her motionless and bloodied body in the garage. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by police.
“The boy returned home to spend the holidays with his mother,” Atlanta Deputy Chief Charles Hampton Jr. stated at a press conference. A family should not have to spend the holiday season in mourning and grief over the loss of a loved one.
On Monday, Brown was arrested and charged with murder, aggravated violence, possession of a weapon, elder abuse, and vehicular hijacking. He was booked into the jail in Fulton County.
The mayor of Atlanta, Andre Dickens, stated that someone identified Brown from a photo of a person of interest released by authorities and contacted police, resulting in his arrest.
The murder of Ms. Bowels has obviously shook our town to its core. Dickens stated at a press conference reporting Brown’s arrest, “My heart breaks for these family members.”
In addition, he reported the arrest of a third suspect in last month’s murders of a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old.
Dickens stated on recent tragedies, “I share our community’s fury and sorrow.” “Let me be very clear to those who want to cause harm in our society and do these crimes: if you pull a pistol or a knife to hurt, harm, or kill someone in our city, you will be arrested and put to jail.”
