A group of high school seniors from rural Texas launched a GoFundMe campaign to help their 80-year-old school custodian, known as “Mr. James,” who had returned to work due to rising living costs.
The students raised over $270,000 in less than two weeks, mainly from the students and staff of Callisburg High School, where Mr. James worked.
The viral campaign caught the attention of over 8,600 donors, who contributed to help Mr. James retire again.
The students were shocked by the success of the campaign, but they were happy to see the impact they made in Mr. James’ life.
The money raised was enough to allow him to retire again, although it is not clear when he plans to leave the school.
