The accident happened about 6.05 a.m., according to FRSC Sector Commander Ahmed Umar, near CDK Company.
The tanker, which had no registration number and was carrying Premium Motor Spirit, was traveling inbound on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when it detonated a few kilometers after the Sagamu junction, according to Umar.
According to the Sector Commander, the regrettable incident comprised eight male adults, three vehicles, and a Bajaj motorcycle.
According to Umar, two people perished in the tragedy, while six others were unharmed.
“The corpses of the dead have been deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu,” he said.
The FRSC boss blamed the accident on speeding on part of one of the truck drivers.
He said that the inferno had been put off by firefighters and traffic has also been diverted to ease the free flow of traffic.
