Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi has been discharged from hospital, his family has said.
The 93 year-old had been hospitalised for routine blood tests and some much-needed rest. He returned home on Tuesday, 1 February 2022.
Prince Mangosuthu has had some health challenges in the past – in 2020, he tested positive for COVID-19 twice, but managed to make a full recovery.
PRINCE MANGOSUTHU BUTHELEZI READY TO WORK
Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s family says despite just returning home from hospital, he has no plans of taking a breather and is getting ready to take on his parliamentary duties, especially now with President Cyril Ramaphosa expected to deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, 10 February.
The veteran politician stepped down as IFP leader in 2019 after being at the helm for more than four decades and handed over the reins to Velenkosini Fiki Hlabisa. He does, however remain one of the party’s representatives in Parliament. He is also a Traditional Prime Minister for the Zulu Royal Household and played a critical role for the monarch over the past two years, since the deaths of King Goodwill Zwelithini, his wife Queen Regent Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu and their son Prince MisuZulu’s rise to the throne.
He has previously said he would only retire as an MP once the expropriation of land without compensation matter has been settled in Parliament, but we all know the recent setback it experienced in the National Assembly
“We as the family of HRH Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi wish to thank the many friends and supporters who expressed good wishes for the speedy recovery of uMntwana waKwaPhindangene”
“We are pleased to report that after a brief period of recuperation and resting, he has been given a clean bill of health and was discharged from hospital yesterday [Tuesday].”
“It is good to have him back home at KwaPhindangene where he is preparing for the upcoming opening of Parliament and State of the Nation debate.”
