Ebonyi State Government Southeast Nigeria has put all measures in place to end teenage pregnancy in the State and Nigeria at large.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Mrs Chinwe Okah disclosed this to Journalists after a meeting she had with Interdenominational bodies who are implementing partners in the fight against gender based violence.
Mrs Okah informed disclosed to the media p that the Ministry and the Civil Society Organizations has entered a partnership to sensitize the teenagers more especially the female folks on how to curb unwanted pregnancies.
“Sensitisation is very important in educating young girls about menstrual cramps”.
According to her “it is entirely deceitful to tell any young girl to have sexual intercourse so that she will never experience menstrual cramps“.
She said.
She said the ugly scenario has made some teen girls to go into sudden motherhood, thereby dropping out from school.
Unwanted pregnancy
On her part, the representative of the Civil Society Organization known as Ladies and Teen Girls Network, Miss Ijeoma Nkasobi said her CSO is out to improve the lives of young girls across Nigeria.
“We must protect our girls from the menace of unwanted pregnancy” Nkasobi said.
The Ministry and the CSOs are making a headway in ending the ugly trend.
