A crucial Ukrainian stronghold in the Donbas appears to be on the verge of collapsing to Russia, with the governor of the region openly discussing the city’s surrender today.
Serhiy Haidai, the governor of Luhansk region, said Russia is attacking Severodonetsk from all sides and that he would be willing to abandon the city if Kyiv gave him the order to do so.
According to a BBC morning briefing, Haidai said the decision to abandon Severodonetsk, one of the final Ukrainian strongholds in his region, will not be taken lightly, but that ‘the war is the bigger concern.’
Heavy battle erupted to the north of Slovyansk, another important city in the neighboring Donetsk province, with Russian bombardment cutting off water, power, and gas supplies, leaving the city’s final residents facing a siege.
After failed attempts at a quick victory with an attack on Kyiv, Vladimir Putin’s’special military operation’ has now turned its attention to capturing the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, which together make up the Donbas.
