The International Trade Secretary brings Ukrainians, entrepreneurs, and humanitarian specialists together in London for an infrastructure summit to kick off discussions on how to assist Ukraine ‘rebuild in peace.’
The United Kingdom and the Ukrainian government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to assist future rehabilitation efforts.
A new joint task force has been created to promote and enhance UK-Ukraine collaborations in order to assist with the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure in Kyiv.
Today [Friday, June 17], the United Kingdom will hold high-level meetings on how the international community can assist Ukraine in rebuilding after the conflict and ensuring its long-term prosperity.
At the UK-Ukraine Infrastructure Summit in London, the International Trade Secretary will greet Ukrainian delegates and prominent business leaders.
Discussions will aid in identifying areas where UK firms have world-class expertise that may help with rebuilding, such as digital and services, water and sanitation, energy, power, and transportation.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Ukraine during the conference, committing to help future reconstruction work.
The MoU also recognizes a new joint task force that will aid in the rehabilitation of Kyiv’s infrastructure by fostering relationships between UK and Ukrainian enterprises.
The task force will support increased collaboration between the UK’s world-class infrastructure, energy, and transportation companies and Ukrainian government and private sector organizations to help repair damaged and destroyed infrastructure, such as transportation systems, hospitals, and schools, more efficiently, safely, and sustainably.
UK Export Finance has also vowed to keep its £3.5 billion in financial support for trade with Ukraine, allowing UK exporters and Ukrainian buyers to access the funds they need to engage profitably.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Secretary of State for International Trade, stated:
We’ve all seen the heartbreaking photographs of Kyiv’s destruction, as well as the thousands of houses, buildings, and key infrastructure that have been devastated across Ukraine.
The wonderful people of Ukraine have shown incredible bravery and fortitude throughout this, and we stand with them in the hope of a brighter future.
That is why it is critical to discuss a post-conflict Ukraine, and we are reaffirming our resolve to assist it in rebuilding in peace today.
Our world-class infrastructure and energy firms, as well as enterprises in transportation, healthcare, and agriculture, are not only well-positioned to help the immediate humanitarian response, but also to contribute to Ukraine’s long-term rehabilitation.
We can help Ukraine rebuild better, stronger, and greener if we work together.
Today’s statement is part of the United Kingdom’s promise to help Ukraine with a $3 billion package of economic, humanitarian, and military assistance.
Mott MacDonald’s Executive Chair, Mike Haigh, stated:
Mott MacDonald is dedicated to assisting Ukraine’s rebuilding and will contribute our finest talents and knowledge in the areas of construction, energy, water, transportation, program management, and health.
For the past 30 years, we have successfully delivered projects to improve the nation’s infrastructure through collaborative partnerships in the country. This work and resolve will continue, and we will be ready to assist the people of Ukraine in rebuilding their country, cities, and infrastructure, as well as restoring their way of life.
Zaha Hadid Architects Director Manuela Gatto said:
Our projects in Ukraine enrich the public realm and prioritize the environment, informed by the country’s long history and unwavering optimism for the future.
We intend to continue creating architecture for the people of Ukraine that sets new norms for creativity, resilience, and efficiency by working with the country’s native talent on its restoration.
In addition, as a clear evidence of our efforts to guarantee Ukraine’s development, the UK has already reduced all tariffs under the Ukraine-UK FTA to zero.
The United Kingdom has also imposed one of the most comprehensive and harsh sets of economic sanctions on Russia.
The sanctions target almost £4 billion in Russian exports, 1,000 persons, and 100 businesses in crucial areas including defense, damaging Putin’s war machine.
Today, the Trade Secretary also announces adjustments to the conflict’s trade remedy procedures.
This involves redistributing ringfenced market access for Russian and Belarussian steel imports to other nations, including Ukraine.
