Former Nascar driver Clint Bowers will not be charged for the accident says Chief Gary Launderville

Launderville told DailyMail.com that Simmons was strolling on a ‘grassy area’ between the highway and the ramp when she ‘step out into the road.’ It’s unclear why she was there in the first place.

Bowyer collided with the woman around 100 feet off the roadway and was thought to be traveling at ‘pretty much’ highway speeds, which on US 54 is 65 mph.

According to the police report, Simmons was hit in the center of the road and her corpse was thrown 266 feet, landing in a ‘wet, grassy ditch’ on the opposite side of the road.

Bowyer slammed the brakes after understanding what had happened, stopping just steps away from her body and dialing 911. When paramedics arrived, they were unable to resuscitate Simmons, and she was pronounced dead.

She had a ‘large amount of trauma to the belly portion of her body based on the red tint to her stomach,’ police reported.

Bowyer displayed no signs of intoxication, according to the crash report, and offered a roadside blood sample that showed no trace of alcohol.

According to the police report, Simmons was high on narcotics when she was wandering along the highway late at night and discovered a crystalline substance, suspected to be meth, among her possessions.

According to Fox 4, Bowyer’s vehicle suffered considerable front-end damage, including damage to the driver’s side and windshield, in the incident.

The former racecar driver from Emporia, Kansas, was apparently traveling home after serving as a broadcaster at the World Wide Technology Raceway south of St. Louis for the ASCAR Cup Series event.

He was obviously absent from Sunday’s race at Sonoma Raceway in California, according to Fox Sports, due to a ‘personal matter.’

Bowyer expressed his condolences to the victim’s family, telling Fox 4 that his ‘thoughts and prayers’ are with them.
