Three inmates who broke out of the prison farm at the Townsville Correctional Centre in North Queensland on Monday night are the subject of an extensive search.
Between 6.30 and 7.30 p.m., the male convicts disappeared from the low-security facility, but Queensland Corrective Services has no idea where they went or how they managed to escape.
Two of the people are doing time for serious offences, so police have set up traffic barriers in the area between the Bruce Highway and Southwood Rd, urging people not to approach.
Currently serving a four-year sentence for armed robbery is Les Noel Noble.
Preston Donald Zane Quakawoot received a nine-month prison term for assaulting a police officer.
Layne Rex Newman, the third member of the group, was sentenced to one year and three months in prison for unprovoked break-ins.
The Townsville Correctional Centre is a large jail that holds both male and female inmates with high and low security needs.
Some prisoners can work on the facility’s farm as part of their rehabilitation.
Anyone with any information on the men’s whereabouts is urged to keep their distance and call police immediately.
