On the Greek island of Crete, a British tourist was discovered dead after other beachgoers became concerned when they saw that he had lain motionless on a sunbed for several hours.
The famed Stalida beach in the municipality of Hersonissos was where the 54-year-old man was found at 8 p.m. on Saturday night. He was confirmed dead upon arrival at Heraklion University Hospital.
The man, who had appeared to be sunbathing on the shore, had been standing there in the sun for hours without relief when they started to get concerned.
The bathers raised the alarm when they realized the British was asleep after closer scrutiny.
Emergency services rushed to the scene where bathers were performing CPR in an attempt to revive the man, to no avail.
MailOnline has contacted authorities in Crete for comment.
