Recently, a man from Texas in the United States (US) spoke about his experience with monkeypox and called it “total hell.”
Luke Shannahan explained how it all began in an interview with a local media station after the Dallas Health Department informed him that he had been exposed to the virus.
“I visited bars. I attended pool parties. Over the weekend, I did go to a music event, and lately, everyone there has been becoming better.
Evidently, the call was a contact-tracing call, according to Shannahan.
Luke Shannahan claimed that he spent the previous three weeks in isolation battling the symptoms of monkeypox.
According to Shannahan, who was reported by the station, “you have these blisters that are inflamed and anytime it grazes something or touches something, it truly feels like someone is taking a potato peeler to your skin.”
He claimed he was able to obtain a monkeypox vaccination as well.
The symptoms of monkeypox typically include skin lesions or blisters. A 1% fatality rate and typically mild symptoms are present.
In the early 2000s, the disease was previously reported in several African nations, including Ghana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, and the Central African Republic.
Initial signs of monkeypox typically include a high fever, enlarged lymph nodes, and a blistery rash resembling chickenpox.
The absence of epidemiological connections between the initial outbreak cases and regions that have previously reported monkeypox suggests that undiscovered transmission may have been occurring for some time.
The event was the most traumatic I’ve ever experienced. I’ve never been ill this bad,” Shannahan stated.
Moneypox was recently classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a worldwide health emergency, the highest level possible.
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Gebreysus, the director-general of the WHO, claims that more than 16 000 instances of the virus have been discovered in 75 nations, including South Africa.
Only five people have passed away from monkeypox to date. At least two cases were reported in the nation, one being a Swiss tourist who was 42 years old.
According to Dr. Tedros, the statement will hasten the creation of vaccines and the implementation of strategies to stop the virus’s spread.
