Team SA has undergone some last-minute alterations in preparation for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which begin on July 28 in Birmingham.
The team has begun gathering in Birmingham’s several athletes’ communities with just one day until the opening ceremony.
Marizanne Kapp (personal reasons) and Trisha Chetty (injury) both announced their absences from the team after being chosen to play for Team SA in the inaugural women’s T20 competition.
Additionally, Nicholas Dlamini of cycling and Mariska Strauss (Covid-19) of mountain biking as well as Alan Hatherly (race scheduling) are no longer competing in the Commonwealth Games (injured). Callum Ormiston has taken the place of Dlamini.
Tiaan Bosch will take the place of injured para-athlete Ernst van Dyk in the para-marathon, and tri-athlete Nicholas Quenet will also not be competing due to injury. Dylan Nortje has taken the place of Quenet.

Luxolo Adams, a sprinter for the men’s 200m, has also withdrew due to exhaustion.
He was left alone. Alan Cummings, a hammer thrower, has been brought in as a last-minute replacement.
