By the end of the summer, a massive swarm of sugar-crazed wasps might invade Britain, according to experts.
The persistent, oppressive temperature is fostering the perfect environment for bug reproduction.
Since the weather frequently determines whether they survive into the spring, their numbers can vary from year to year.
Expert bug exterminators have dubbed 2022 “the year of the wasp” due to the rising temperatures and consequent rise in insect populations.
As their larva develop into full-sized wasps and they need to find a new energy source in the later months, they become more sugar-crazed.
In order to stop attracting them, Brits are advised to steer clear of sweet items like ice cream and fizzy drinks whenever feasible.
Manager of Stop Wasps – Stop Pests Sebastien Pommereul told BMFTV: “This year, we are undertaking between 10 and 12 interventions a day. We had five last year.’
Other wasp sting prevention advice includes avoiding swatting the insects away because that usually just agitates them more.
If stung, the stinger needs to be taken out right away, but not with tweezers because doing so could spread the venom.
After that, ice should be administered to minimize swelling and the affected region should be cleansed with soap and water.
