Two years ago, when police were called to a Wendy’s restaurant, Rayshard Brooks was shot and died. Two Atlanta Police Department officers were involved in the killing, but they will not be charged.
In June 2020, while Brooks, also 27, raced from police outside the fast food restaurant in South Atlanta, Officer Garrett Rolfe, 27, fatally shot him twice in the back. In the parking lot, the police were attempting to take him into custody.
Customers at the restaurant phoned Rolfe and his colleague, Officer Devin Brosnan, to report that a guy was obstructing the drive-through because he was dozing off behind the wheel.
However, the matter has now been withdrawn since the level of lethal force used was judged “appropriate.”
According on the information available to Officers Rolfe and Brosnan in this instance, former Gwinnett County DA Danny Porter came to the following conclusion: “The use of fatal force was objectively justifiable and that they did not act with criminal intent.”
