According to local reports, a British tourist was detained today for reportedly attacking a taxi driver in Magaluf.
According to reports, police located witnesses to the alleged incident on the Spanish island of Majorca and then detained a 21-year-old British guy. Another traveller who may be able to assist with their inquiry is also being sought after by officials.
‘Intoxicated’ tourist and two other males were wandering down the street when, at approximately 2am, they hopped onto the hood of the cab, according to information from a local organisation of taxi drivers.
Early on Tuesday morning in Magaluf, the putative suspect is seen punching a guy who is thought to be the taxi driver, forcing him to the ground.
When the 57-year-old cab driver attempted to reprimand the tourists, he was pushed to the ground and punched and kicked.
Two other videos, both assumed to be of the same occurrence, show a guy in a mint-green shirt, who is supposed to be the suspect, standing over another man, who is thought to be the cab driver and is laying on the ground wearing a black T-shirt.
Next to where the claimed incident takes place, a car is seen parked in the middle of the road, briefly snarling traffic.
The first video captures the moment the alleged suspect strikes the cab driver, forcing him to tumble backward, from behind the stopped cars and across the street.
The culprit seems to carry on the attack when the cab driver is lying face down on the pavement, engaging in a struggle with him and landing additional blows to the head.
A third guy is seen attempting to remove the suspect off the cab driver as anxious spectators gather as automobiles pass by the altercation. After arguing with the guy, the suspect is seen leaving the area with many people who are thought to be his pals.
The guy looks to have blood on his right hand as he walks away.
Then another individual is seen attempting to flag someone down, presumably to phone the police or to get medical assistance.
The second video starts as the assault is coming to an end and is taken from in front of the stopped automobile. The guy on the ground, who looks to be covered in blood, is seen being hauled away from the suspect wearing the mint-green shirt.
The cab driver is shown lying motionless on the ground as witnesses approach the suspect and order him to leave the area as others capture pictures of him doing so.
Although the names of those engaged in the event have not been made public, local reports claim that the suspect was a British guy aged 21. After police contacted witnesses of the alleged attack, he was located.
Authorities are still trying to find the man’s fellow countrymen, according to Olive Press, an English-language Spanish daily. The guy was reportedly drunk at the time of the alleged assault, which happened at approximately two in the morning, according to the newspaper.
One of Spain’s two national police agencies, the Guardia Civil (Civil Guard), has been given the case.
According to local sources, the cab driver was given first aid on the spot and taken with an injury to Son Espases Hospital.
His condition is not thought to be critical.
According to Olive Press, local taxi drivers stopped operating in Magluf on Tuesday in support of their wounded coworker.
