After a guy set fire to a Houston house and fired at evacuating inhabitants, three people were murdered and two were wounded, according to authorities. Law enforcement officers shot and killed the suspect.
According to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, who spoke at a news conference, police in Houston got many reports just after one o’clock on Sunday about both the gunshot and the fire.
The event happened at a “multiple-room rental establishment,” according to Finner. The suspect, a 40-year-old African American guy, shot at the occupants after setting the house on fire to entice them outside, according to Finner. Police, according to him, think the guy was a “longtime resident” who had just been kicked out of the institution.
Finner informed reporters that the culprit “lit fire to numerous homes, tragically, very regretfully, and quite evilly. He then waited for the people to emerge and shot at them.”
According to Finner, the suspect fired bullets in an unidentified direction as firemen came to put out the fire. This forced the firefighters to seek shelter. Shortly after, a Houston police officer responded and located the suspect, who was carrying a shotgun and wearing all black, in a neighboring parking lot. The officer and the suspect engaged in gunfire, which resulted in the suspect’s death, according to Finner.
“I don’t know whether he really shot there, but there was a spent shell adjacent to the suspect’s corpse, and the officer engaged in fire, and that suspect is on the scene dead,” Finner said.
According to departmental rules, the officer who shot and killed the suspect will be put on leave while the incident is investigated, Finner said.
At the site, two Caucasian guys in their 60s were declared deceased. Another African American man in his 40s passed away after being brought to a nearby hospital, according to Finner. After receiving an arm shot, one guy was brought to the hospital. According to Finner, another individual “injured” themselves while fleeing and declined medical attention.
In 32 years, Finner remarked, “I’ve seen things that I haven’t seen before, and it’s occurred again and time again.” “Why, people enquire of the police head. We just ask that the neighborhood come together since we don’t know why.”
