In Saskatchewan, Canada, authorities were searching for two suspects on Monday after a mass stabbing the previous day left ten people dead and fifteen more hurt.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, they first got a complaint regarding a stabbing at the James Smith Cree Nation around 5:40 a.m. 13 crime locations, including one in the nearby town of Weldo, according to the police, had many victims.
The RCMP stated that they think some victims were planned while others were selected at random. Additionally, they sent out a dangerous person notice urging everyone to take cover.
In a Monday morning update, Chief Evan Bray of the Regina local police department described the incident as “horrific” and stated that Damien and Myles Sanderson, the two suspects, are still at large.
The Regina Police Service and the RCMP have “continued, unrelenting attempts through the night to locate these two suspects.”
Rhonda Blackmore, assistant commissioner of the Saskatchewan RCMP, said in a statement that authorities are urging people in Saskatchewan and the surrounding provinces to exercise caution.
She said, “I’d want to ask them to turn themselves in to the police.”
In a tweet posted late Sunday night, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described the attacks as “horrific and devastating.”
He remarked, “I’m thinking of those who lost a loved one and of those who were hurt.
The James Smith Cree Nation’s top officials issued a press release declaring a state of emergency and opening two emergency operations centres to serve the locals.
According to Bray, police are bringing in investigators to take charge of the search.
He continued, “Until we have those two safely in custody, we will not halt this inquiry.
Bray begged anyone with information to come forward and assist in “bringing about a conclusion” because he is “certain” that “someone out there” knows something about the two suspects.
In our province and in our villages, there has been a lot of pain and concern all day today and yesterday, according to Bray.
