Egyptologist Anthony Browder evaluates the reality of eight ancient Egypt scenarios from film and television.
He evaluates the authenticity of the mummification depictions in “The Mummy” (1999), starring Brendan Fraser, and “Moon Knight” (2022), starring Oscar Isaac. In “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981), starring Harrison Ford, “Gods of Egypt” (2016), starring Chadwick Boseman, and “The Ten Commandments,” he also comments on pyramids and ancient ruins (1956). Browder analyzes the depictions of famous pharaohs, kings, and queens in “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” “Cleopatra,” and “Tut” (2015).
Browder is the head of the ASA Restoration Project, the first Egyptian archeological dig supported by African Americans. Currently, the ASA is excavating three 25th-dynasty Kushite tombs. Additionally, he is an associate professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and the author of such works as “Nile Valley Contributions to Civilization.”
