In a calm suburban street, a drunk truck driver surprised police officers by performing a tire-shredding burnout mere meters from their squad car.
Friday’s dashcam film shows a Toyota ute driving out in front of a marked police vehicle on an otherwise empty street in the southern suburb of Gilmore in Canberra.
The pickup truck advances slowly before the driver, age 31, presses the throttle and releases the clutch, releasing a massive cloud of white smoke into the atmosphere.
Friday, a ute in Canberra began performing a burnout straight in front of a marked police car.
Before speeding down the street, the vehicle managed to produce a massive cloud of tire smoke.
The police initially retreat to a safe distance before pursuing the vehicle through thick smoke to an intersection where it makes a right turn.
As police officers engage their lights and sirens, the pickup truck ultimately pulls over and stops in a side street.
Police said that the driver’s blood-alcohol level was 0.151, which is more than three times the permissible limit of 0.05.
Officers report that the breath test results of the 31-year-old man driver were three times the legal limit for DUI.
The driver’s license of the Canberra resident was immediately suspended, and his vehicle was seized.
He will appear in court at a later date to face allegations of drunk driving and inappropriate vehicle operation.
The police would like to inform the community that “behavior of this nature will not be tolerated.”
