Ashley Dale’s funeral draws hundreds to Liverpool Cathedral


In remembrance of a beloved municipal employee who was gunned down in her backyard, bridges in Liverpool will turn green, pink, and orange tonight, and flags will fly at half-staff.

This afternoon, hundreds of mourners gathered at the city’s Anglican Cathedral for Ashley Dale’s funeral.

The 28-year-old woman died after her assailant smashed open the front door of her home in Old Swan in the early hours of Sunday, August 21, and fired indiscriminately with various firearms.

Concerned neighbors called Merseyside Police after hearing gunshots and observing a woman lying on the ground in the property’s backyard.

Miss Dale was declared deceased shortly thereafter.

The deadly shot occurred five days after Sam Rimmer’s murder in Dingle and less than twenty-four hours before Olivia Pratt-murder Korbel’s in Dovecot.

Today, a large audience gathered to pay their respects to Miss Dale, whose white casket was carried to the entrance by a hearse bearing the words “daughter” and “Our Ash” in white flowers.

Knowsley Council, where she worked in Environment Health, tweeted: “Today, our much cherished and greatly lost colleague Ashley Dale was laid to rest.

Green, pink, and orange lights will illuminate the Greystone Bridge and Archway Road Bridge in her honor.

Additionally, flags in Kirkby, Huyton, and Prescot will fly at half-staff till tomorrow.

Sunday, August 21, in the early morning hours, Ashley Dale was fatally murdered after her assailant smashed in the front door of her home and fired multiple shots indiscriminately.

Tonight, bridges in Liverpool will turn green, pink, and orange, and flags will fly at half-staff in remembrance of the beloved council employee.

At her funeral at the city’s Anglican Cathedral, a hearse carrying the white casket to the entrance was adorned with white flowers spelling out “daughter.”

Her family has announced that a private cremation will follow the memorial service this afternoon.

This morning, she received tributes on social media, including from Emily Spurrell, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside, who wrote: ‘My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Ashley Dale as they put her to rest today.

Sending my heartfelt thoughts and sympathy on this terrible day.

Environmental Health Officer at Knowsley Council, where Miss Dale was regarded a “rising star.” Colleagues left flowers at her desk as a tribute to her.

Cllr Graham Morgan, the leader of Knowsley Council, stated that the gift was made by members of her team who were “particularly devastated” by her passing.

Cllr Morgan stated at a cabinet meeting of Knowsley Council earlier this month, “The council lost a rising star when she was cruelly and senselessly killed.”

He continued, ‘Cllr Powell and I have met with Ashley’s team, and it goes without saying that they are utterly crushed by her passing. Ashley was involved in assisting numerous elected officials, all of whom remarked on how enthusiastically she handled her work and how helpful she was.

Desmond L. Bannon & Sons Family Funeral Directors, who stated in a note: ‘It is with great regret that the family of the late Ashley Dale has asked us to announce her loss.’

Please do not hesitate to share. All of Ashley’s relatives and friends will mourn her loss and fondly remember her. The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at The Anglican Cathedral.

On September 14, investigators detained four males across Merseyside and Cumbria in connection with the murder of Miss Dale.

A 27-year-old man from Roby was arrested on suspicion of murder and possession of a firearm, a 40-year-old man from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of murder and possession of a firearm, a 35-year-old man from Old Swan was arrested on suspicion of murder and possession of a firearm, and a 57-year-old man from Croxteth was arrested on suspicion of aiding an offender.

Merseyside Police said on September 15 that three males arrested on suspicion of murder have been freed on conditional bail, while a fourth suspect has been released pending further investigation.

Two men and two women who were previously detained in connection with the murder of Miss Dale are still out on bail.
