The author of “Shadow and Bone” felt like a “monster” after having to listen to a kid actor cry during a scene in the second season of the show.
Saturday, Bardugo spoke at a New York Comic Con panel about her popular young adult series and “Shadow and Bone” on Netflix. She teased the second season alongside series actors Ben Barnes (The Darkling), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), and Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa) without revealing big spoilers.
During the panel, Bardugo stated, “When I was on set for the second season, there was a scene in which a tiny child was crying, and he is a very wonderful actor.” “And I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m a monster’”
Bardugo is the creator of the Grishaverse, a magical universe comprising her fantasy trilogy beginning with “Shadow and Bone” and the “Six of Crows” duology set. The Netflix adaptation focuses mostly on the plot of “Shadow and Bone,” but also includes characters from “Six of Crows” to expand out the universe.
Bardugo stated to Insider close to the premiere of the series that she made it plain to showrunner Eric Heisserer early on that she did not want to be “locked out” of the project. In addition to contributing to the conception of the show, she also appeared in a cameo during its first season.
Despite her narrative about the crying toddler on set, Bardugo stated that she does not consider her works to be “tragedies,” despite the often high costs her protagonists incur.
“Generally, I strive to convey stories truthfully. I am uninterested in telling stories in which there are no casualties yet a war is occurring. That doesn’t happen, “Bardugo replied.
