Bellevue Hill condemns Woollahra council’s dog assaults

After a young girl urgently attempted to save her beloved groodle from the fangs of a notoriously dangerous dog, residents in Australia’s most affluent neighbourhood are outraged.

Residents of Bellevue Hill, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, have come together to support the 15-year-old girl who was left to care for her wounded dog after it was attacked on September 19 by a massive black malinois, a dog that is comparable to a German shepherd.

The young woman was walking her dog late one night along Victoria Road toward Rupertswood Avenue when the big dog spun around and attacked her groodle without warning.

The enormous dog’s owner left the scene after that, leaving the “traumatized” adolescent alone with her pet as it “bled out.”

Dee Bee, a local dog walker, relayed the sad tale in an effort to learn more about the dog’s owner and the canine.

She said that since then, she has received several letters from people who have been hurt by the vicious dog, and she has urged the Woollahra local government to take action.

The dog has reportedly assaulted many neighborhood pets, Ms Bee told Daily Mail Australia.

“Yet council has done nothing since those other dogs were off-lead on the street, which is technically against the law, but having a dog on a leash that is not under control by a competent owner is also against the law,” the complainant said.

With its care expenditures now over $13,000, Ms. Bee said that the attacked dog had a long road to recovery.

He is still taking painkillers and antibiotics, she added, adding that it will have been a month since the incident on Monday.

He had to be hand fed and given water with syringes since it was that awful. He had to be hoisted into the lawn and put into bed since he was too painful to walk.

Ms. Bee expressed her displeasure to the council for failing to intervene when the enormous dog injured a different cherished pet for the first time.

I realize that dogs cannot be off-lead in the public, but it is absolutely incredible that the dog attacked multiple people before attacking our groodle, who was on a leash.

“Wholly avoidable.”

Police were informed of the incident, according to Ms. Bee, and she was convinced they already knew who had been attacked.

The same dog is said to have damaged another local pet in March, costing its owners $4,000 in medical expenses.

Once again, (the owner) simply left the area and walked inside, according to Ms. Bee.

Since Woollahra Council posted advice on dog safety on their website but did nothing about it, Ms. Bee called them “hypocrites.”

She predicted that “(the dog) would end up killing a dog or kid and the council will be sued.”

Woollahra Council acknowledged receiving complaints about the dog and said that steps were being taken to stop such attacks.

In a statement, it was said that “council officials have contacted the dog’s owner and issued a Notice of Intention to deem the canine hazardous.”

“The Notice” implies that while the investigation is being conducted, the dog must be muzzled, leashed, and walked by a capable adult who is at least 18 years old.

Council Rangers are proactively inspecting the area, and penalty letters of up to $1760 are applicable for failure to comply with the Notice.

I can attest that the owner is aware of these responsibilities. The owner does have a right of appeal and may decide to request that a judge make the decision.

Council’s first reply, which said that it was “taking the situation very seriously” under Ms. Bee’s position, was received with scathing criticism.

‘Great! As the dog is still being walked every day and the owner has no control, fearful neighbors are forced to cross the dog!, one irate local stated. “We look forward to hearing an actual conclusion.

“He ought to be penalized, compelled to pay the vet bills, and have the dog muzzled or, better yet, taken away.” Another person remarked, “It is terrible what has occurred; it would have been dreadful to behold.

I can’t even begin to image how traumatizing this must be for the poor girl and groodle. Another individual stated, “It’s a little frustrating that the cops are aware of this guy and the dog is allowed to keep attacking.

Since the vicious groodle assault, there have been reports of the aggressive dog strolling about the neighborhood unmolested. Ms. Bee has advised pet owners in the neighborhood to “keep an eye” out for it.
