Sam Kerr is creating history with the Chelsea women’s soccer squad.
In her two years with The Blues, the phenomenal Australian striker, who already holds the all-time scoring record in America’s premier women’s soccer league, the National Women’s Soccer League, has taken Europe by storm. And her most recent feat may be the most astounding to date.
In Wednesday’s Champions League group stage match between Chelsea and KFF Vllaznia Shkodr, the Albanian team had no response for Kerr. She celebrated scoring four goals in the team’s 8-0 victory by performing her iconic on-field backflip.

The first and second goals scored by Kerr in the lopsided match were both clean looks off of crosses into the box. Two minutes after Kerr scored her second goal, fellow international starlet Pernille Harder — who finished the game with her own hat trick — found the back of the net.
In the 57th minute, Chelsea’s Fran Kirby sent a brilliant corner kick into the six-yard box, where Kerr leapt to head the ball beyond Vllaznia’s goalkeeper for his third goal of the game.

Then, just three minutes later, she added one more just in case. She used her left foot to bury another cross into the open goal, and then executed her aerial antics.
Kerr became the first player in UWCL history to score four or more goals in a group stage match with her four goals. On the men’s side, just a few of superstars, notably Christiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski, and Zlatan Ibrahimovi, have accomplished the same accomplishment.

Prior to their next Champions League match, Kerr and The Blues have multiple Barclays Women’s Super League fixtures to attend to in the following weeks. Real Madrid, quarterfinalists in 2021-22, will travel to Kingsmeadow on November 23 for a titanic matchup against Chelsea.
