Mzansi media personality Jeremy Mansfield has died after a harrowing fight with stage 4 cancer. He was renowned for his decades-long national radio and television programs.
Mansfield, a native of the Eastern Cape, was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia thirteen years ago.
Following nine months of treatment, the prognosis was favorable.
The radio host’s hopes for good health were dashed when he was diagnosed with liver cancer earlier this year.
In August of this year, 10 days prior to his 59th birthday, Mansfield shared his health issues with his followers: “My cancer has been verified as stage 4, terminal, and is now solely subject to palliative care.
This dream team (as I now refer to them) will now advise me on how to have as much fun as possible in the time I have left and fulfill as many of my big and little bucket list goals as possible.
This morning, his longtime friend and former colleague Samantha Cowen confirmed Mansfield’s passing.
Cowen said on Facebook: “This morning, the world’s light went out. Jeremy Mansfield died just before sunrise. He passed away quietly at home, surrounded by family, friends, and inexhaustible love.
“Jeremy did not know how to live a small life. He was capable of combining heart and soul with mischief and chaos. With him on the airwaves, the city was brighter and lighter, and he transformed lives every day. When not raising millions of dollars for charity, he was causing hell!
“Behind a wicked façade, Jeremy possessed a large, tender heart. This was broadcast over the radio to a large audience, yet he reserved his vulnerability for a select few.
“He was adamant that the world be a better, shinier, and funnier place, and he drove to that destination at 1,000 miles per hour without a rearview mirror, with the rest of us clutching on for dear life!”
