Odell Beckham Jr. was taken from a Miami-to-Los Angeles aircraft on Sunday, prompting his attorney to describe the event as “unnecessary.”
In a statement received by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Daniel Davilier recounted his client’s alleged sequence of events, beginning with Beckham’s “problem-free” boarding of a flight in Miami on Sunday morning.
“The flight was delayed following boarding and before to departure. Mr. Beckham fell asleep with his blanket draped over his head, as is his custom on such trips. He was awoken and informed that the plane had returned to the gate and that he had to deplane since he had not fastened his seatbelt when prompted. “He stated that he was asleep and that he would put on his seatbelt when he woke up,” according to the statement.

Beckham was then “advised that it was too late and that either he or everyone else would have to leave the plane.” Then, Davilier said that a “overzealous flight attendant” ordered everyone off the plane rather than allowing Beckham to fasten his seatbelt.
Davilier proceeded by stating that “Mr. Beckham was never belligerent or argumentative” and that the 30-year-old wide out “was willing to comply with the seatbelt requirement.”
Beckham, who will begin a series of free-agent visits this week, was neither held nor cited, according to NFL Network.
The Miami-Dade Police Department claimed on Sunday that officers were summoned “to a medical emergency” in response to reports that Beckham was “in and out of consciousness.”

“The flight attendants feared that Mr. Beckham was gravely unwell, and that his health would worsen over the anticipated five-hour journey,” police said in a statement. “Upon the arrival of the cops, the flight crew repeatedly begged Mr. Beckham to evacuate the plane, but he refused. Officers instructed Mr. Beckham to evacuate the aircraft, which he did without incident when the aircraft was deplaned.
Davilier stated in his Sunday statement that “sleeping on an airplane should not result in ejection from a flight.”
Davilier’s letter stated, “If they could wake him up when the plane returned to the gate, they could have done the same to ask him to fasten his seatbelt.”
Beckham, who ostensibly referred to the incident on Twitter, has a busy week ahead as he begins his free-agent tour with the Giants on Thursday.
“I have never in my life encountered what just occurred to me… I’ve seen it everything. Never in my lifetime “I COULD NEVER MAKE THIS UP,” tweeted Beckham.

Beckham was chosen by the Giants in 2014 and played five seasons with the team until being moved to Cleveland in 2019. The Pro Bowl receiver spent the second part of 2021 with the Los Angeles Rams, with whom he won the Super Bowl in February.
Beckham tore his ACL in the title game against the Bengals, though. NFL Network reports that he has subsequently been deemed free of the ailment.
Beckham is anticipated to visit with the Cowboys and the Bills in addition to the Giants on December 5.
