The teaser for Netflix’s Harry & Meghan documentary gives us a glimpse into the private lives of two of the world’s most famous individuals. The minute-long clip, released this morning, offers what appears to be an intimate portrayal of ex-royals Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who are telling their own narrative for the first time on the streamer.
The teaser for Harry & Meghan opens with the pair smiling at one other under an umbrella in the rain, while solemn piano music plays in the background and a narrator asks, “Why did you want to produce this documentary?”
As black-and-white photographs of Harry and Meghan cycle across the screen, shutters click over the faint piano, and we hear Harry respond, “No one sees what’s going on behind closed doors,” before adding, “I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”
Meghan adds, “Does it make more sense to hear our narrative from us when the stakes are this high?” Her rhetorical inquiry concludes the quick teaser, which lasts only one minute and twelve seconds.
Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Harry & Meghan, but says the documentary will be available “soon.”

When it finally premieres on Netflix, it will have had a difficult road to get there. Following an outpouring of criticism for the latest season of The Crown, another Netflix original, the streamer elected to push Harry & Meghan’s release date.
After hearing passionate opposition to The Crown Season 5 — which has been chastised for its portrayal of the royals — Netflix decided to postpone Harry & Meghan to 2023, after initially planned to premiere the documentary this December.
“They’re rattled at Netflix, and they blinked first and opted to postpone the documentary,” a source told Deadline in October, saying that executives at the firm believed premiering the documentary so soon after the drama series wasn’t a good idea.
Whatever time Harry and Meghan make their public appearance, it will undoubtedly generate headlines, as practically everything the couple touches appears to spark a media tempest. While nothing was known about the series before today, Netflix finally revealed some much-anticipated details in a press release this morning, promising to highlight “the other side” of the couple’s “high-profile love story.”
Liz Garbus directed Harry & Meghan, which contains not just the royal couple but also friends, relatives, and historians.
