The theft of a young woman’s laptop, which was accompanied by a terrible message, has left her traumatized.
“You need to take security seriously. “Blame the council and receive a laptop refund,” the message stated.
The burglar concluded the message with a sad face and an obviously sarcastic “sowwy.”
She stated, “It’s like, ‘I’m going to steal your laptop and put it in your face that it’s gone.’”
Rachel, a Seaforth Community Centre after-school volunteer in north Sydney, characterized the message as “very nasty.”
A worker at the Seaforth Community Centre in north Sydney was horrified when her laptop was stolen and a vicious message was left behind.
She identified herself as a “broke university student” and is now facing the prospect of having to pay thousands of dollars for a new computer and losing all her work right before her last year in school.
“I’m broke, I’m a uni student, I’m still studying,” she remarked.
“I don’t have the money to get a new one because I just purchased this one a few months ago and haven’t even paid it off yet.

“My entire existence is stored on that laptop,”
She claims the laptop was left overnight in a secured office and has no clue how the room, which she considered to be safe, was compromised.
The police have confiscated the pen and paper used to write the message and will attempt to discover fingerprints; however, the young woman has stated that she would not pursue the case further if the thief returns the laptop after posting online about it.
“Especially if it’s a high school or elementary school student who’s bored and breaking into things for the purpose of it, I’m hoping that if a parent sees the post, they’ll come home and see a laptop without themes and be like, ‘I know where it came from,’” she added.
“I don’t care who took it; I simply need it back, even if they phone me on a secret line and arrange to deliver it at a specific time.”
Concerned community members reacting to her post advised her to obtain a new laptop through the council’s insurance; however, as it was her own laptop, she has been informed that this recommendation does not apply.

She has also resisted the impulse to create a GoFundMe or similar effort to raise money for a new computer.
She stated, “I’ve always known that if you want something, you must make it work for you.”
“[Losing the laptop] is not a major concern when compared to others who are homeless or in need.”
