Alyssa Farah Griffin, the token conservative on The View, has attacked Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, stating that the former president is “weaker than ever” yet still poses a threat to the Republican Party.
Today’s ABC talk program devoted one of its Hot Topics to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and how it overlaps with his current criminal investigations.
Joy Behar began the discussion by criticizing the Republican Party for not taking a firmer position against Trump.
She said, “Mitch McConnell will declare, ‘He won’t be the nominee.’” They say, ‘I will vote for whatever the Republican candidate is,’ before adding, ‘I don’t believe he will run.’ However, he will continue to flee since that is what keeps him out of jail.
Trump launched his candidacy for president of the United States to a throng at Mar-a-Lago last month, stating, “To make America great and magnificent again, I am today launching my candidacy for president of the United States.”
Griffin, who worked for Trump during his presidency, added to the discussion, “I share the frustration, although I’m obviously later to the boat of walking away from Trump – you guys were never with him – of feeling like there’s always something coming out but wondering when it will actually hit him.”
The co-host said, “But I’d like to suggest that this is the weakest he’s been since he down the old escalator in 2015,” noting his tax returns being turned over to the House Ways and Means Committee, the Jan. 6 investigations, and other factors.
Griffin then urged the Republican party to “reject” Trump and “walk away” from him, adding the chilling remark, “If the GOP walks away from him, he would sooner burn the party to the ground than allow it to happen.”
The other presenters concurred, with Sunny Hostin adding, “Let him burn everything down,” before recommending that the party embrace this opportunity to remake themselves and “start the party that we were all comfortable with.”
Whoopie Goldberg concluded the show by comparing Trump and the Republican Party to a “bad relationship” and praising people who are opposing the former president.
Looks like everyone are in accord (which is a rarity for this group).
ABC airs The View weekdays at 11pm/10c.
