According to the Austin American-Statesman, Chris Beard, the head men’s basketball coach at the University of Texas, was arrested early Monday morning and charged with assault on a family/household member.
Beard, 49, is accused of choking someone at his residence, according to Austin police spokesperson Brandon Jones. According to multiple sources, Beard was arrested and charged with third-degree assault.

The former coach of Texas Tech is currently in his second season with Texas. The No. 2 Longhorns’ last home game was on Saturday.
