Grant Wahl, a notable soccer writer who abruptly collapsed and died last week while covering the World Cup in Qatar, suffered an aortic aneurysm, according to his widow, who disclosed this on Wednesday.
During an interview on “CBS Mornings,” Wahl’s wife Celine Gounder announced the cause of death.
“It was certainly something that had been fermenting for years,” she told the presenters, ruling out the possibility of foul play in her husband’s death.
Friday, while reporting the quarterfinal encounter between Argentina and the Netherlands, Wahl, 48, slumped in his seat. His body was brought swiftly to the United States, where an autopsy was conducted.
