The family of a 22-year-old woman who died in a horrifying Christmas Eve collision after being struck by a police vehicle has released her identity.
At 8:10 p.m., Rachael Louise Moore was hit and killed in Liverpool’s Kensington neighborhood.
Rachel Louise Moore, age 22, was the treasured daughter of Alison and Ian, sister to Ben, and dearly adored granddaughter of Nana Sue. Her bereaved family paid homage to their “cherished daughter” and said in a statement:
Jack’s partner and a kind friend to many. All those whose lives she touched will miss her dearly. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this terrible time.
Last night, when emergency personnel were rushed to the site on Sheil Road, Rachael unfortunately succumbed to her injuries soon after.
Investigation into the crash is anticipated from the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
“Following the death of Rachael, we are assisting the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) who has opened an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding this event,” said Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson of the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
We send Rachael’s family, who have been crushed by this awful occurrence, our warmest sympathies. They are now receiving assistance from specially trained family liaison officers.
“Please get in touch with us if you saw this occurrence so we can attempt to put together the circumstances,” I’d want to ask anybody who did. Additionally, I would want to request that anybody with CCTV, dashcam, or Smart doorbell video that might be useful to us get in contact. The event was reported to the IOPC in accordance with established practice. At this time, the family asks that their privacy be maintained.
There were “a bunch of cops,” witnesses at the site told the Liverpool Echo, and one of them claimed to have seen a lady been struck by a vehicle.
It’s horrible, one individual told the media source. Christmas Eve has come. Regardless, it doesn’t look good. It breaks my heart.
Merseyside Police have requested that anybody who saw the incident or has footage from a dashcam or CCTV call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at (0151) 777 5747, via email at sciu@merseyside.police.uk, or on Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #MerPolCC (857 of Saturday, December 24).
It happened after a lady in her 20s was murdered in a shooting at a bar in Wallasey, Wirral, on a tragic night for the city.
A lady and at least three men were wounded when a shooter opened fire inside the crowded Lighthouse Inn. Several other individuals were reportedly hurt.
After being treated for her injuries at a hospital, the female victim tragically passed away that night.
Police said that the gunman, who is still at large, left the area in a dark-colored Mercedes.
Authorities are requesting that anybody with knowledge on the event or the gunman’s whereabouts get in touch with them right away.
The incident, said to Detective Superintendent David McCaughrean, took place in a “busy location full of young people.”
