Monday, tennis star Martina Navratilova disclosed that she has been diagnosed with throat and breast cancer at the stage 1 level.
After discovering a large lymph node on her neck in November, Navratilova, age 66, reported that physicians had diagnosed her with two types of cancer.
In 2010, after getting radiation treatment for a non-invasive form of breast cancer, the nine-time Wimbledon singles champion was declared free of the disease.
In her 40-year career, the former world number one won 59 grand slam singles and doubles trophies.
Her prognosis was regarded as “excellent” in a statement by her representatives.
“Martina Navratilova has been diagnosed with throat cancer in the first stage.” The prognosis is favorable, and Martina’s therapy will begin this month, according to the statement.
This particular kind of cancer responds exceptionally well to treatment.
“During the WTA finals in Fort Worth, Martina detected a swollen lymph node in her neck.” When it did not decrease, a biopsy was performed, and the results indicated that the patient had stage one throat cancer.
“At the same time that Martina was receiving tests for throat cancer, a suspicious lump was discovered in her breast, which was later identified as cancer and had nothing to do with the throat cancer.
“Both of these malignancies are in early stages with favorable prognoses. Martina will not cover the Australian Open for Tennis Channel from their studio, although she wants to occasionally participate through Zoom.”
The Wimbledon champion resorted to Twitter to express appreciation for the love she has received.
Obviously, my phone and Twitter are exploding, so I will reiterate: thank you all for your support; I’m not finished yet:)
