»PARAGLIDER CRITICALLY INJURED IN LION’S HEAD CRASH IN CAPE TOWN«
On Tuesday, 10 January, a paraglider reported to be in his forties received severe injuries after crashing onto Lion’s Head in Cape Town.
The crash happened before 14:00 on Tuesday, according to ER24, and rescuers arrived soon afterwards.
“On the scene, medics found the man wedged between two large rocks, being tended to by bystanders,” said an ER24 spokesperson.
The paraglider suffered significant head injuries and was in critical condition, according to medical personnel. Before being transported by an Air Mercy Service (AMS) Medical Helicopter, he was treated on the scene and given with advanced life support.
The paraglider was transported by helicopter to Groote Schuur Hospital for emergency medical care.
“Paraglider airlifted yesterday by the Western Cape Department of Health EMS/AMS rescue helicopter. It was reported that the paraglider crashed on Lion’s Head, and the patient was airlifted in a critical condition to Groote Schuur Hospital. ,” said AMS in a statement on Wednesday.
According to ER24, the incident’s details remain unclear.
In an event unconnected to this, tandem paragliders were forced to land on Sea Point Main Road in November 2022 after launching in difficult weather conditions.
