Leslie Jones has a slight wardrobe mishap during Monday’s (January 16) prerecorded episode of The View. The comedian’s earring fell out during her performance while she was discussing her part as Spanish Jackie in the HBO Max series Our Flag Means Death.
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin mentioned Jones’ work on the comedy, in which she portrays a “badass” pirate with 20 spouses named Spanish Jackie. Jones was unable to maintain a straight smile when the host questioned how she prepared for the job.
She questioned, “How did I prepare for the role?” before laughing and pointing at Griffin, to which Whoopi Goldberg replied, “Tell her.”
Jones said immediately, “Girl, I’m 55. How many pirates have I actually encountered?”
When Goldberg added, “I feel like you’re living my life on this show,” Jones responded, “Girl, all of our lives,” before her earring fell out.
“Alright, I’ve lost an earring. “There it is, right there,” she murmured as she repositioned the earring. “When a Black girl loses an earring, you know it’s about to fall out!”
On a more serious note, Jones praised her series character, stating, “She’s a badass. She owns her very own bar. She battles. She engages Blackbeard in combat. This is the job I’ve always desired because I am… you know I’m a badass, right?”
If you can’t get enough of the SNL alum, she will be the first guest host on The Daily Show following Trevor Noah’s departure this week. Jones informed the group that she probably wouldn’t do it permanently since she doesn’t want to speak politics every day. Thankfully, she was not invited to join The View.
“As a cheerful person, I would feel depressed if I discussed politics every day. Just what we’re going through in this country, I’m forced to talk about politics every day,” she remarked, before teasing her hosting style. And I’m not going to be polite.
Jones continued, “Black women run things, and occasionally people do listen when we speak out.” Because, yes, it is time for you to cease acting in this manner. Let’s be respectful now. And act like we’ve got some sense. And I’m not afraid to tap that a**.”
ABC airs The View weekdays at 11pm/10c. Additionally, the first season of Our Flag Means Death is currently available to view on HBO Max.
