Mapimpi will face a disciplinary hearing following the Sharks’ victory over Bordeaux-Bègles in Durban, where he was cited for an alleged eye gouge. A complaint was made during the game, but no definitive incident was captured on camera.
In the 36th minute of the contest, the Springboks superstar allegedly made contact with the eye or eye area of Bordeaux’s scrumhalf Maxime Lucu, according to the citation.
Mapimpi traveled with the Sharks squad for Saturday’s Heineken Champions Cup match against Harlequins, but a disciplinary hearing is scheduled on Wednesday. However, the decision may not be made public until Thursday morning.
