Another tiger loose in Johannesburg

The Edenvale Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has announced that another tiger has escaped in Edenvale, East Rand, Gauteng.

According to the National Council of SPCA, the tiger is likely a female nine-month-old. Authorities have initiated a search for the animal.

The National Council of SPCAs has informed the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) about the escaped tiger, as reported by the GDARD.

“Given that GDARD and the Ekurhuleni municipality are responsible for enforcing the legislation that allows these dangerous animals to be kept in captivity in the first place, they must assume some form of accountability and responsibility for the welfare of the animal/s and the residents,” NSPA stated.

Sheba, an eight-year-old female tiger, escaped her enclosure on a smallholding south of Johannesburg earlier this month.

Sheba was eventually located and euthanized to ensure the safety of the Walkers Fruit Farms neighborhood.

Sheba had assaulted a mother and slaughtered two dogs and a pig.
