Newcastle target James Maddison worth “over £100m” following Enzo Fernandez deal

Graeme Souness advised Leicester to accept no less than £100 million for James Maddison from Newcastle.

Maddison, 26 years old, has been on the radar of the high-flying Magpies due to his electrifying play. For the past two seasons, he has been one of the finest players in the Premier League. He has nine goals and five assists in 17 matches so far this season.

Due to the fact that his contract expires in less than 18 months, he may be on the move this summer. Souness, though, believes the Foxes should demand a nine-figure price in light of Chelsea’s recent record-breaking acquisition of Enzo Fernandez.

After their 3-0 loss to Manchester United on Sunday (February 19), a Sky Sports analyst stated, “He’ll do the dirty work, he’s an all-around top player, and I think it will be difficult to keep him.”

“Almost £100million for him. Chelsea spent £110 million on Fernandez, who is a player with promise, whilst Maddison is an excellent present player. The most difficult aspect of football is scoring goals, which he does. He is goal-oriented and creative.

Souness also praised Maddison’s diverse skill set and asserted that he must be an integral part of Gareth Southgate’s England team moving forward.

Continuing, he stated, “I believe he is meant for the largest stage. I believe it will be difficult for Leicester to retain his services. What is most difficult to obtain in midfield is what he has in plenty.

“He has a deft pass, he takes the ball in tight situations, he can slide players in, and he has a goal-scoring eye. I met him briefly during the summer in Portugal, and he only bought me one drink, but I like him.

I was disappointed that he wasn’t at the World Cup, and it may have been because he was injured, but he must be on your team.
