Online admiration has been shown for an astute ABC reporter’s retort to a troll who likened her attire to the Sunrise Cash Cow.
On Sunday morning’s ABC program Insiders, political reporter Dana Morse, based in Melbourne, made an appearance.
One Twitter user maliciously likened her black-and-white jumpsuit, which she donned for the event, to the one worn by Channel Seven’s mascot.
The troll wrote, “Is she wearing a jumpsuit or is the #CashCow on #Insiders now?”
In retaliation, Morse posted a side-by-side comparison of herself and the Cash Cow on Twitter, turning the insult into a comedy.
“Equal age. She made a joke on a famous superannuation, “Same super contribution.” Amazing sledge, 10/10.
Twitter fans praised the calm journalist for her cool reaction to the insult and praised her performance on the show.
One viewer said, “Dana, you were amazing on #insiders, some hilarious points of view that even got Samantha Maiden (political editor for news.com.au) to re-clarify.”
Very pleased with your analysis of the added value of the Voice. Please, @abcnews, let’s see more young people on TV. They represent the future!
If that is all they have, you are winning, they said. Another person said, “Best new panelist I’ve seen on Insiders since the new host came on.”
“On the mark and very well said, fantastic stuff.”
“I thought you were fantastic!” Always like hearing your thoughts,” a another viewer said.
I must say that, since I don’t watch it for the fashion, I didn’t even notice what you or the other people were wearing.
“I adore it!” I wish I could pull off a bolder appearance, but unfortunately, I’m plain and uninteresting. You did well! one more said.
But what’s more significant is that you made your views clearly.
Together with other journalists Samantha Maiden and Shane Wright, Morse spoke about the Voice to Parliament initiative and the ongoing interest rate increases.
She said that the Commonwealth Bank’s last-week announcement of record earnings came when its customers ‘buckled’ under unforeseen financial difficulties.
The journalist informed Speers that “the government” was to blame.
To ensure that mortgage holders and renters, who are directly affected by these interest rate increases, are not disproportionately affected, more has to be done in terms of fiscal policy, according to the speaker.
According to Morse, the federal government would search for long-term solutions to prevent recurring interest rate increases in the next five to 10 years if it were “brave” enough.
Interest rates increased to 3.35 percent earlier this month, defying Reserve Bank Governor Philip Lowe’s prediction that they wouldn’t rise until 2024.
The news that Commonwealth Bank had increased its profits by 10% after posting a record $5.216 billion profit infuriated struggling homeowners.
