The Islanders welcomed back forward Josh Bailey to their lineup on Sunday after he missed over a week due to an upper-body injury. Bailey played on the fourth line alongside Otto Koivula and Arnaud Durandeau, while Simon Holmstrom returned to the top line with Anders Lee and Bo Horvat.
Matt Martin played with Casey Cizikas and Hudson Fasching on the third line. Bailey played for 14:10 minutes and made some good plays on the wall and some disciplined, experienced plays, as well as contributing to the penalty kill.
The team is still waiting for Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Mathew Barzal to return from their injuries.
In the game against the Winnipeg Jets, coach Lane Lambert chose to start goaltender Semyon Varlamov instead of Ilya Sorokin, who had been playing well lately.
Varlamov recorded his second shutout of the season, stopping 23 shots.
The team has complete trust in both goaltenders but wanted Varlamov to stay fresh.
Former Islanders coach Barry Trotz will take over the role of general manager for the Nashville Predators from the retiring David Poile on July 1.
Trotz was the first coach in the franchise history for the Predators. Coach Lane Lambert has great confidence in Trotz’s ability as a hockey guy and is sure that he will excel in any role he takes on.
