A TikTok video has gone viral after a woman claimed that her Uber driver complained about her being in a wheelchair and allegedly “cleaned his hands” after loading the chair into the car.
The video has gained nearly 500,000 views and sparked a debate in the comments section. Some users defended the driver, stating that they would wipe their hands too if the wheels were dirty or suggested that tipping would have helped the driver’s attitude. However, others criticized the driver’s behavior and claimed that it was rude.
The woman, Karlee Rose, posted two follow-up videos replying to some of the comments. In the first video, she stated that the driver sighed and complained about her wheelchair before wiping his hands after loading the chair into the car.
Rose further explained that this is something her mom has to deal with frequently, with drivers canceling or giving her attitude when they see her mobility device.
In the second video, Rose showed viewers an example of a “nice” Uber driver who backed into the driveway and put the chair in the trunk despite the rain.
The video has raised awareness of the challenges that people with disabilities face when using ride-sharing services. It has also highlighted the importance of respectful and inclusive behavior from drivers towards all passengers. Uber has not yet commented on the incident.
