Last week, Anastagia Carter, a 51-year-old principal at Indian Creek Elementary School in Douglas, Georgia, was arrested on multiple charges of alleged child cruelty and false imprisonment. The charges include two counts of first-degree cruelty to a child, two counts of third-degree cruelty to a child, two counts of false imprisonment, and two counts of simple battery.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was notified by the Coffee County Board of Education about an incident involving Carter and a student. Upon further investigation, the GBI discovered a second incident involving Carter, resulting in her arrest by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
The Coffee County School System posted a statement on its Facebook page acknowledging the allegations against Carter and noting that the principal had been immediately placed on administrative leave. The details of the incidents are unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. The GBI encourages anyone with information about the matter to contact its regional investigative office in Douglas or submit anonymous tips.
Once the investigation is complete, the GBI will hand over the case to the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Carter remains in custody for now, and the charges against her have yet to be proven. The case highlights the importance of reporting child abuse and neglect incidents and the swift action required by school districts and law enforcement agencies in such situations.
