Scottie Scheffler wins 2023 Players Championship, earns $4.5m

Scottie Scheffler won the 2023 Players Championship on Sunday, finishing at 17-under par and earning $4.5 million in winnings.

His victory marked his sixth PGA Tour win, and he was greeted with a sweet embrace from his wife Meredith in the crowd at TPC Sawgrass moments after winning the championship.

Scheffler acknowledged the tough conditions during the day but credited his patience and ability to stay focused for his win.

Throughout the weekend, Scheffler was cheered on by his wife and his 88-year-old grandmother Mary, who walked the course with him.

Scheffler was grateful to be able to share the experience with his family, especially after a challenging year that included his grandfather’s passing and an ill uncle.

The past 13 months have been quite successful for Scheffler, who claimed his first PGA Tour victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February 2022.

He went on to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play the following month. In April 2022, Scheffler won the Masters, earning his first-ever green jacket.

He will have the opportunity to defend his title as reigning champion at Augusta next month.

Scheffler and Meredith have been married since 2020, and they participated in the Par 3 event ahead of the 2022 Masters, a tradition in which loved ones of players act as caddies.

Scheffler shared that it was their first time participating in the event, and Meredith was still working on cleaning the grooves.
