A mother and her three-year-old son have died after a lorry hit their stationary car, which had broken down on the A180 near Immingham, Lincolnshire. Nicola Courtney, 34, and Lucas Page, three, were both from Scunthorpe.

The incident occurred at around 9:06 pm on Friday, and the police have referred themselves to the Independent Office of Police Complaints (IOPC) voluntarily in relation to the collision.

The A180 is primarily a dual-carriageway with no hard shoulder, and the police have appealed for motorists with dashcam footage to get in touch.

Humberside Police have not yet conducted formal identification of the victims but have named them based on family statements.

The police released a photograph of Lucas, who appeared to be playing in a tractor, dressed in wellies and a woolly hat.

The families of the victims have been offered support from specialist trained officers and partnering agencies, and have asked for privacy to be respected.

The police have warned the public not to speculate about the circumstances of the crash and continue to appeal for any witnesses who have not yet come forward to provide information.
