Former head of Scotland Yard’s Paedophile Unit, Mike Hames, has stated that 1970s pop star, Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, will likely spend the rest of his life in prison after being recalled to jail.
According to the Probation Service, Glitter breached his licence conditions and was subsequently recalled to prison.
Although the details of the breach were not given, it was reported that he was caught attempting to access the dark web.
Mr Hames explained on Times Radio that Glitter was “not allowed to conduct certain things on his phone”.
He also described Glitter as being “so dangerous and so fixated on his offending behaviour that he’ll never stop – he’s gone too far. He’s arrogant, he’s opinionated.
He’s someone who’s always going to be a danger to children, quite frankly.”
Glitter had been released from prison in February after serving half of his 16-year sentence for sexually abusing three schoolgirls.
The offences occurred when he was at the height of his fame, and his victims were afraid to speak out due to his celebrity status.
However, nearly 40 years later, the offences were uncovered when Glitter became the first person to be arrested under Operation Yewtree, the investigation launched by the Metropolitan Police in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal.
Glitter had previously admitted to possessing 4,000 child pornography images and was jailed for four months in 1999.
Mr Hames believes that Glitter’s latest return to prison will result in him serving the remaining eight years of his sentence and that he will likely die in prison.
