If you’re looking for a new job and reside in the Southwest, there is a new opportunity for you if you possess the skill of “hugging bears” as per your resume.
On Monday, the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish announced that it is hiring conservation officers, referred to as “professional bear huggers.”
Although the job description may raise some eyebrows, the agency states that candidates should be capable of hiking in “strenuous” conditions and possess the courage to crawl into bear dens.
They must also have faith in their coworkers to keep them safe.
The agency emphasized that it does not encourage crawling into bear dens, and the images shared are part of a research project in Northern New Mexico.
The agency is seeking people with a background in biological sciences, natural resources conservation, or a related field.
In addition to hugging bears, the job also involves educating the public about wildlife and management.
Candidates for the position must possess a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in remote locations across New Mexico.
The department stated that all the bears were handled safely under supervision, and the officers would “chat” with whoever decided to crawl into a bear den.
The job application is open until March 30. The agency wrote in a job posting that although not all law enforcement work is as glamorous as this, they would love for you to join their team and have the experience of a lifetime.
