Rick Pitino, the 70-year-old Hall of Famer, is not ready to retire from coaching anytime soon.
Steve Masiello, who has known Pitino since 1989 and joined him at Iona University this year, believes his boss will coach for another decade.
Pitino himself didn’t refute the idea, saying that he loves teaching, coaching, and motivating and that he missed it terribly during the two years he was out of coaching, which were the most miserable of his life.
Pitino hopes to coach for another 12 years, but he would be happy with six or seven.
Despite coaching rumours surrounding him, with both St. John’s and Texas Tech reportedly interested in hiring him, he doesn’t seem ready to leave Iona anytime soon.
Masiello admires Pitino’s work ethic and energy, saying that he’s not human, works out, wakes up early, and works hard. He’s like someone in his 40s, not a 70-year-old coach.
