Next week, a report by Lady Louise Casey will reveal that the Metropolitan Police is riddled with racism, sexism, and homophobia.
The country’s largest police force has failed to change its internal culture despite previous reviews recommending otherwise.
The report was ordered following the rape and murder of Sarah Everard by Met cop Wayne Couzens in 2021.
Sources say the findings show the Met is in the ‘last-chance saloon’ and that it makes for ‘atrocious’ reading for the scandal-hit force.
The report is expected to highlight problems that occurred during former Commissioner Cressida Dick’s tenure from 2017 to 2022.
However, it will also emphasize that issues were apparent before she took the helm.
In addition, the report will say that cases such as Couzens’ and David Carrick’s (an officer from the same unit who was found to be one of Britain’s worst rapists) are damning indictments of the Met’s failings and cannot be dismissed as one-offs.
Lady Casey released an interim report last October, which revealed that Met officers suspected of serious criminal offences, including sexual assault and domestic violence, had been allowed to keep their jobs.
This included one officer who remained in the force despite being accused of 11 cases of sexual assault, harassment, and domestic abuse.
Deputy mayor of London Sophie Linden said that the culture within the Metropolitan Police needs to change radically.
Concerns have been raised about indecent exposure as a potential gateway to more serious crimes after the case of Wayne Couzens.
He was accused of three counts of indecent exposure but remained working as a police officer.
The report is set to blast the country’s biggest police force for failing to change its internal culture despite previous reviews recommending otherwise.
