A grieving family in Queensland has been dealt a heartbreaking blow after their mother was buried in the wrong cemetery plot.
Sonia Jordan, a mother of two, died on February 21 at 75 after a long illness.
Her dying wish was to be buried with her late parents at Pinnaroo Lawn Cemetery in Bridgeman Downs, Brisbane’s north.
The family had communicated this wish to cemetery staff a month before her death.
They believed that Ms Jordan was buried in the same plot as her parents during a gravesite burial service on March 1.
However, the family recently discovered that Ms Jordan was not buried with her parents but in a different part of the cemetery.
The error was only picked up when the family tried to organise a grave plaque with all three names.
Ms Jordan’s twin sister and daughters have spent the week trying to get answers about the bungle.
They are struggling to come to terms with this shocking news at a time when they are already grieving.
Ms Jordan’s daughter, Peta Edwards, expressed her disappointment and frustration in a statement to the Courier Mail.
She said that they had requested that her mother be buried with her grandparents and paid for this service.
She questioned how such a crucial detail could be overlooked.
The Pinnaroo Lawn Cemetery is managed by the Brisbane City Council, which has expressed its regret and apologies for the error caused by the funeral director.
The council claimed that the funeral director failed to provide the existing burial plot information, which led to the error.
The family is seeking further answers from the council and the funeral director to rectify the situation and fulfil Ms Jordan’s dying wish.
